$4 beers and a velvet divorce

I am now in Slovakia which became an independent state on 1 January 1993 after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia, sometimes known as the Velvet Divorce. But it's more importantly known as the place with the cheapest beer in Europe. Yesterday was spent in Vienna (Austria) but I realised after about 3 hours wandering the streets that I need to go back there and spend more time in that beautiful city. I did manage to have a Vienna Schnitzel for dinner! (supposedly the only meal named after a town!) Today was a pretty boring 4 hour drive through the Slovakian countryside to the town of Zilina which happens to be the European home of Kia motors - in fact - Slovakia is the world's largest per-capita car producer, and manufactures 1.1 million cars per year. Cars that are made here include: Volkswagens, Peugeots, Kias, Land Rovers and Volvos. The country still has the feel of the previous Communist rule with stark 10 story brightly painted buildings surrounded by industry in most of the towns I drove through (A little like Albania!). I am looking forward to having a good look around tomorrow. The town itself has some nice squares and the people seem very friendly.
