A Tourist In Malta - Day One & Two

Updated: Mar 17, 2023

First day as a tourist. Caught the ferry to Sliema as I had to buy a pair of Ecco Sandals. Sliema was nothing special but there was a nice walk along the promenade to Spinola Bay. Managed to get 20,000 steps in today! On the way back to the hotel I spent the afternoon at the National War Museum Fort St Elmo. This recently refurbished fort was great value (7.5€ old age special) and was one of the most interesting museums I have visited. The whole story of Malta is explained right up to when it hosted the final meeting of George Bush and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev on December 2–3, 1989. This museum is a must visit!. Tonight, I ate at Aarons Kitchen (just up the road) and enjoyed pork fillets. Asleep by 8.30pm.

Day 2 as a tourist – And decided to go early (10am) to visit St John’s Co-Cathedral. This is the burial place of over 400 knights of St John who are buried in the floor. You are supposed to follow the numbers around when listening to the commentary through your earpiece, but I think someone took the numbers so people were walking everywhere backwards and forwards!! The cathedral is a must visit in Malta – Get there early as the crowd’s line up later in the day. After that I visited the Lascaris War Rooms. Someone nicked the numbers in the war rooms too, so people got lost. It was expensive 12€, and no age discount. The Upper Barrakka Gardens provide a nice view over the harbour.

Lovely pictures and a quick way to see what Malta has in store. I would love to get a “Malta visa UK” and visit this beautiful island nation with my family soon.
