Arrived Sicily Day 14, 15 & 16, 3rd - 6th March

Updated: Mar 17, 2023

Just got the very fast ferry from Valletta Malta to Pozzallo Sicily (1.5 hours) then a bus to Catania. Staying at the Centrum right in the old part of town. Visited the WW11 Museum which weirdly had a whole room full of Hitler stuff. Didn't realise the yanks backed the Mafia during and prior to the invasion (Lucky Luciano). Visited Mt Etna which was very expensive €50 for the chairlift. Etna is the most visited site in Italy and I think they were all there on the day I visited. Catania is quite dirty in an Italian sort of way, made worse by the extensive use of black lava building material. Spent the days just walking around. Found an interesting park full of heads. Went to a steakhouse for dinner - they served horse. Not too sure what they gave me (neigh!!). Attached pics below from Catania and Mt Etna. Tomorrow get the train to Syracuse.

Just caught up on reading your blog John. Malta looks amazing ! And the Mt Etna shots in Sicily are great. So glad you found Liz and Phillip’s holiday home in Malta. It looked better in The Crown… but glad to see it will be restored as a museum for the public to enjoy.
