Today I caught the Eurostar to Lille to begin my next stage of my journey. Picked up my car, a Qashqui BVM SUV (whatever that is....) from Avis and drove to Dunkirk. It is really cold and wet and windy. On arrival, I went for a walk through the town but saving the museums and memorials till tomorrow. Dunkerque was smashed between 1914 and 1916 and during WW2 over 380,000 soldiers were evacuated (would make a good Netflix movie!). More on this tomorrow. The favourite food here is coq a la biere (Chicken in a creamy beer sauce), but couldn't find this anywhere tonight and ended up having a skirt steak with frites. I need to step up my DuoLingo but so far coping well with the fact that French people don't speak Australian very well.
