Bricks

Another 18,000 steps today exploring Bruges in Belgium. This town is an I-Phone cameras dream. Everywhere you look is a picture opportunity. The town is really buzzing because tomorrow there is a big parade for the Procession of the Holy Blood. Unfortunately the place is booked out and I will be moving on.... But they have been putting up barriers and grandstands all day!! A couple of highlights from today's walk: The world's smallest gothic window (thanks again Atlas Obscura!!) and the Halve Mean Brewery and pipeline. This is a great story whereby a brewery organised crowd funding to build a pipeline from the Brewery (where I had lunch) to the bottling plant 2 miles from the city. The 500 donors were promised free beer for life. I ordered what I thought was a cheese platter for lunch - my Dutch is worse than my French and ended up getting a big lump of cheese to be eaten with mustard... Was really delicious. Bricklayers here must have made a fortune if they were paid by the brick as the whole city is built from millions of tiny bricks. The other standout feature is the quality of the cathedral interiors. They all contain the most amazing works of art and are well worth visiting.
