Brussels sprouts

Day one in Brussels but first it was a quick 30 minute train trip from Ghent to Brussels Midi station. Dumped my bag and began to check out some of the local sites. Was blown away by the Grand Place square in the middle of town - I have never seen so many people taking photos with their phones in the one place... I then walked to the Royal Palace (through the Parc de Bruxelles which had weird fat animal sculptures) but it was covered in scaffolding, then walked to the massive Palace of Justice - but it was covered in scaffolding too. Visited a number of cathedrals which were OK, but not great. Although some of the decorations on the tombs were interesting. There was a shopping gallery: The Royal Saint-Hubert Galleries that was similar to the Grand Gallery in Milan. This gallery was the first covered shopping arcade in Europe and the shops were super pricey including one watch in a store for €138,000. That's a lot of money to tell the time. Tomorrow I will visit the European Parliament.
