Flamingos and no wifi

Set off this morning for the drive to Provence. The first stop was Montpellier, which I have to say was one of the most beautiful cities in France I have visited so far (and wished I could have spent more time here!). Walked around for 3-4 hours (15,000 steps) and was so impressed. The main part of the old town is having some work done, but people have been living here for 11,500 years since hunters first set up camp, and I can see why. Even the new buildings look interesting. The school of medicine (which was closed for renovations) has been teaching doctors since the 9th century. The town also has its own "mini me" version of the Arc de Triumph! and the worlds largest macron. Had to leave after lunch but for some reason "clare" my navman took me via the delta of the Rhone river through the Parc naturel régional de Camargue. Saw thousands of flamingo's which where not as pink as the ones in Sicily but still pretty impressive (Alice would have loved this drive!). Also saw as gigantic brown flamingo on a roundabout.

Sometimes travel throws a curve-ball at you and this afternoon was a classic. After checking into my very attractive farm BnB in Vaison La Romaine I asked for the Wifi password. After a lot of hand signals, I soon learnt that there was no Wifi available (even though they advertise its availability). Given that I had booked 4 nights and had made no plans after my stay, I tried to explain that I had to have access to the internet. So I picked up my small suitcase and left. I then went to the tourist office in town and was told this is a common issue with small BnB's. Not to worry - I walked around the corner and booked into a tiny hotel and ended up having a terrific meal. Looking forward to exploring Provence for the next few days.
