Goodbye Provence, Hello Auvergne Rhone Alps

Today headed north for my stay in Lyon, but first called into see a few more villages on the way. Opened up Atlas Obscura App while having a coffee in Villedieu. (BTW If you travel you must have this app.) I found an interesting landmark in Bollene called the Barry Troglodyte Village so I made a detour to check it out. On the way there stopped at a few random castles and took a few pics of the countryside. The village is a series of underground houses that have been lived in before Christ. It was also on top of a hill that had the most amazing views, so I spent about 2 hours walking around. Weird that it was on a mountain called Barry on the day that Barry Humphries died.... The dwellings are so fascinating and some were actually lived in until the 20th century. From there I followed the Rhone river north and visited a really good medieval village called Viviers which actually had a really nice cathedral. Tonight am staying in the town of Valence (no booking - just random hotel!) which happens to have the heart of Pope Pius VI in a church, which was left behind in 1802 when they took the rest of his body back to Rome. I am going to check it out before dinner. Have just checked it out and it was closed for renovations! However Valence seems to be a really nice town.
