It's not just the wine....

Bordeaux is the most famous wine region in the world. 80% of the land is dedicated to the production of wines! But after Paris, Bordeaux is the city with the most listed monuments in France and it's also my last city to visit in France before I move on the Holland tomorrow. This is one of the most walkable cities I have visited but today with high heat and even higher humidity (hence the reason it's great for producing grapes) I only managed about 12,000 steps. But having walked this city for three days I am pretty sure I have covered most of the interesting spots. But I have also developed a taste for canelés a small French pastry flavored with rum and vanilla with a soft and tender custard centre and a dark, thick caramelised crust and it just happens where I'm staying in downtown Bordeaux that my unit is surrounded by canelé shops. The modern bicycle was invented in Bordeaux but it seems, at times, the city is absolutely chock full of pedestrians. There are also a large number of street people and nearly all have dogs. But someone told me many have been moved here from Paris as they clean up that city for the Olympics. Bordeaux is a pretty town and has over 360 monuments but my favourite is the Falling Car of Bordeaux. This parking garage has 712 indoor spaces, and one outdoor. An early 1960's Jaguar hangs precipitously over the street below.
