Left Darlington this morning. Daylight saving started last night so was glad to spend a hour less in this town - No internet, no where to eat (ended up having a hamburger) and my 2 star hotel should have paid me to stay there!! Tried to visit the Head of Steam Train Museum (but it's closed until 2024). Thought this might have some clues about William James Forrest who was England's best train driver! Today I am going to discover the North Moors National Park, but first I visited the actual spot where James Cook was born. There is nothing there except an urn on a post. The museum was also shut, but I did manage to see the most basset hounds in one spot.
Really enjoyed Ormesby Manor - Well worth a visit - Think I might be in profit on my National Trust membership now...North Moors National Park is another great day of driving. Beautiful views and postcard villages. Tonight I am staying at Seaton Castle in Whitby where finally I have decent internet access and the worlds biggest bedroom.
Love the basset. Only in England!! Your commentary is great John. Love the landscapes and incredible architecture. Will bring waterproof everything if we ever get to Lakes District. 🤞🤞And avoid the old Darlington. 😅
