Left Stamford early for the Lakes District but on the way visited another old house "Hardwick Hall" in Derbyshire. Built between 1590 and 1597 and containing the largest collection of Elizabethan embroidery in Europe. Was well worthwhile calling in. Arrived at my AirBnB which has a sensational view looking over Ullswater. Enjoyed a pint at The Brackenrigg Inn at the bottom of the hill, and had sausages and gravy for dinner (bliss). Tomorrow I begin exploring the Lakes district with visits to Keswick, Glenridding & the Aira Force Waterfall and I'll be ticking off a bucket list item.
