Living like an Italian & Neptunes Grotto

I have 7 days here in Alghero so spent yesterday doing the Italian thing. Went to the local farmers market, at the end of my street, to buy my cheese, salad and meat for dinner, then to the panettiere (baker) for my bread (thank goodness for google translate). Afternoon siesta, then to a bar around the corner for my Aperitif, then home for dinner! But today did something much more interesting and took the boat cruise to Neptunes Grotto. The cave is one of the most famous places to visit in this part of Sardinia. The caves have incredible stalactites and stalagmites, and the lightening of the largest rooms (that literally look like concert halls) creates an stunning effect. Inside the caves there is a seawater lake about 120m long. You can see from some of the pics below the scale. The grotto can also be reached by car but there are 650 steps to get to the entrance which is located at sea level. But, because it is so popular, there were chaotic scenes as hundreds of people followed a steep and slippery path, then turned around to come back out again. Be warned! It is a cash grab as the boat ride cost €17 and then you arrive at the cave and have to pay another €14 to actually enter the cave, with only one guy collecting the money from hundreds of visitors. The boat ride was nice.
