Menin Gate and a very moving memorial

Tonight I had a traditional Flemish meal of ham hock with a beer (7%). It was delicious. After dinner I went to the Menin Gate. Every evening, at 8pm on the dot, a group of buglers sound the last post under Menin Gate at Ypres in Belgium. The daily ceremony, held in all weathers since 1928 apart from a pause during the second world war, honours the 89,880 British and Commonwealth soldiers – among the 300,000 who died in this part of western Flanders – who were lost with no known grave. A large crowd had gathered. At the end of the ceremony there is an amazing silence.

That is quite amazing. To think this happens every evening. It’s an amazing world. That steak looks very delicious
