More Exploring In Malta - Day 5 - 7

Updated: Mar 17, 2023

Day 5 & 6- Travelled today to Xlendi by ferry from Cirkewwa (about 20 minutes). Was met at the wharf by Frank the owner of the AirBnB I am staying at. Its a terrific unit and even has StanTV so got to watch some of the Waratahs V Brumbies game (usual result). Xlendi is a pretty little seaside village but seems to be undergoing a lot of development. Went for a walk around the headland and found some interesting salt pans.

Day 7 - Today got the bus to Victoria - had a coffee then got another bus to Xaghra, a little village at the top of a valley. Checked into the Cornucopia Hotel then made my way to the Ggantija Temples. This is a unique prehistoric monument situated at the centre of an extraordinary archaeological landscape, the Xagħra plateau on the island of Gozo. It consists of two structures built between c.3600 and c.3200 BC. (so pretty old!) It was well worth the entrance fee of €8 (senior concession). Wondered around here for a few hours then had a couple of beers in Xaghra to fill in the afternoon. NOTHING happens on Gozo between 2pm and 5pm. Everyone disappears. Tonight I had rabbit stew ( a very famous Malta dish). Don't think I will have it again as it was mostly bones. I have to learn how to incorporate text and images so until I do I have attached a few images below.

This morning took off for a long walk to Marsalforn and then along the north coast of Gozo. Some 20,000 steps later had a terrific lunch at IL Kartell of baked scallops. Saw plenty of salt pans along the coast. I took advantage of the farm roads (small paths to service the local farms). I don't think these farmers have heard of RoundUp as the farms just seemed to be full of weeds. Could be an opportunity for a decent reseller in town!!

Salt pans near Marsalforn - still used today
