New Zealand's most boring town and the World's steepest street

The morning was spent on a glowworm cave tour (a real highlight), then a few hours driving to Dunedin. Which I voted as New Zealand's most boring town. But it does have the World's steepest street and is also the home of the Royal Albatross centre (which had 3 albatross's), a ton of nesting shags and stacks of Red-Billed gulls (with chicks). Apart from that there is not much else to see or do. So we then drove onto our last stop of the trip Akaora. The drive took us though Oamaru which is an amazing town full of magnificent old limestone building's - as well as the world's largest Penny-farthing. We all agreed that it would have been worth spending a night here!. The reason you go to the "french" town of Akaora is to see the Hector dolphins (the worlds smallest), but we didn't see any, so its a great reason to go back. The drive to Akaora was thrilling - especially if you got lost like we did and spend some time travelling through stupidly steep and scary mountain roads. Our last day on the road trip was spent exploring Christchurch. Considering the earthquake was in 2011, the city is still a mess and under construction. It was then time to make our way to the airport only to find the plane had been delayed some five hours. All up is was a great road trip. New Zealand has no tolls or speed camera's (so its no wonder their economy is in such bad shape). But its nearly impossible to go fast and there is no need because the scenery is stunning. Literally around every corner there is something worth seeing. Hopefully we can get back next year to explore the North Island.
