Nice Needlework

Angers was worth a stop. The city is famous for its 13th-century castle, medieval half-timbered houses and the Apocalypse tapestry – the oldest and the largest medieval tapestry in the world. The town is very easy to walk around, so managed 18,000 steps today, helped by a pretty good breakfast at my BnB, The walking trail is pretty easy to follow as they have painted a blue line on the road (bit like the blue line in Sydney 2000 for the marathon). Still managed to get lost a couple of times! Easter Monday, so everything is closed, except Angers Castle (Built in 1230), home of the Apocalypse tapestry. Commissioned in 1375 by Louis I of Anjou, this monumental piece depicts the historical, social and political situation in France in the 14th century. Produced in wool using the ‘de lice’ tapestry technique for an immaculate finish, it is 103 metres long by 4.5 metres high. Spectacular and well worth visiting. There are the usual wooden houses but there is a really weird one from the middle ages (1491) in Sainte Croix Square with some really weird icons on the walls (pic below!). Overall a nice town. Attached a couple of other interesting pics: One of a dress made from macrons, and another of the lost Wallaby Bar (with an alligator / not a crocodile!!) which is 600km from the Wallaby training camp! - But I begin my trip to the South of France tomorrow.
