Put this place on your "I must visit before I die" list... This is a part of the Alps that I have never seen but it was so worth the visit. It's German, so its clean and efficient, the food is great and the scenery is incredible. The eclectic Neuschwanstein Castle (that of Disneyland Fantasy Land fame) and Hohenschwangau Castle lie southeast of the town. I walked past them both but didn't visit, as I am a bit castled out. Besides I think the Sleeping Beauty castle in the Loire Valley (see my April 10 post!) wins by a length. Instead I walked to the Tegelberg mountain cable car, paid my €27 to ride to the top and then wandered around on the top of the mountain for an hour or so, enjoying the incredible views. I considered walking down (would have taken about 3 hours) but had already paid for the ride, so rode it back to the bottom. Today did 20K steps (about 17km) walking through fields of flowers, cattle and hay. I particularly liked the fact that the cattle all have different size bells, so when you walk through their fields it sounds like music.(Click on the link of the video below). Would have liked to spend another day here as the walking is great and there is more of the town and surrounds to explore. Today marked a trip milestone - I had to replace a pair of walking socks as they were finally worn right through. I start heading north tomorrow - All the way to Norway... P.S. found another great quote today at the top of the mountain, so have added it to my title page!!
