Nothing to see here!

Spent a lazy Sunday walking around Nuoro - "There is nothing to see in Nuoro which is always a relief", wrote DH Lawrence when he visited this inland town in 1921. However I did find the Museo della Vita e delle Tradizioni Sarde, otherwise known as the Museum of Costume also known as the Sardinian Ethnographic Museum. It's goal is to display the traditional life of the island's people. The great news was entry is free on the first Sunday of the month! Of course the QR codes for the English translations didn't work, but luckily I had read a book by Jeff Biggers called “In Sardinia: An Unexpected Journey in Italy" (*) So it was interesting to spend a few hours in the museum and see Sardinia's history through its clothing and the displays.

Sunday's in Sardinia are dead boring. Everything shuts at 1pm to reopen Monday. So I decided to lash out on a long lunch at one of the award winning restaurants "Il Portico". For Antipasti I had Arrosto freddo di vitello con misticanza escaglie di Distintu (cold veal with a mixed salad and sheeps cheese - a perfect start. For my Secondi Piatti I couldn't resist the Costolette di Agnellone alla gtiglia con patete al forno (Local lamb chops with spuds). It was a terrific way to finish my stay in this mountain town as it's onto the coastal Oristano tomorrow (via a few more ancient sites).

(*) Great read if you are interested in finding out more about Sardinia - its people and history.
