Syracuse 7th March

Today visited the Neapolis Archaeological roman ruins - about a 25 minute walk from the apartment. One word of advice is don't bother. This was on my list of "must see" in Sicily and I was totally disappointed. The man at the ticket office was incredibly rude when I handed over my €13 and asked for a map. He just pointed at the QR code in the window and went back to his phone. Of course the QR code did not work. The "on site" maps are hopeless as most things are roped off, poorly signposted and the paths have no directions. When I went through a gate the wrong way (as there was no map) I was yelled at by one of the staff and told to follow the paths. What a joke!! The whole location felt like one big ripoff which it was. Even the Amphitheatre was covered in timber. So I walked back to Ortigia and spent some time walking through the markets - At one end they were cooking up a storm with all the fish and produce, so you just take a table and enjoy it. Tomorrow collect the car and begin my Sicily road trip.
