The five musketeer's and "If its not on - its not on!"

Yesterday was cold and wet, so spent the morning exploring Auch (which took about 1.5 hours). Then back to my terrific AirBnB and spent the afternoon watching the Brumbies and Qld Reds play rugby. Today, Saturday was much better. The day started rainy so I went to the local market in the main square and grabbed some legumes (vegetables) for the next few days. I am really getting the hang of the markets when it comes to being served and paying for your goods. After the markets the sun decided to finally re-appear, so I jumped in the SUV and decided to explore the region of Gers (which you probably know as Gascony). The roads and villages are straight from the best of the Tour De France. Rolling green hills, picture perfect villages, and perfect roads. First stop was the village of Lavardens which is ranked among the loviest villages in France (which it's not...) but it did have some nice views over the countryside. I then found myself on the road to Condom - so thought that's a place I must visit as there might be something big there!. Weird name for a town... But it was a great spot. Apart from a very impressive Cathedral, the town is famous for D’Artagnan and his Musketeers statues. In the heart of the episcopal city (nearly all the towns in this region have something to do with the El Camino), is the most famous Gascon and his companions of adventure. The famous statues: D'Artagnan, Athos, Pothos, Aramis (and now me). In tribute to the famous trio and D'Artagnan, Gers was very involved with the 100 years wars and the following religious wars. Had a nice lunch on the river Gers next to the interesting "Double lock of Graziac". The rest of the afternoon was spent lazily driving around checking out old villages and enjoying some tasting's at a couple of wineries. Final stop was the town of Mirande where I stocked up on some more duck fats, (the area is famous for its pate, fois gras and rillettes).
