The perfect place to do nothing because there is nothing to do!

The last two days have been perfect - pouring rain yesterday and blowing an Atlantic gale today. So spent the time planning the next stage of my European trip and working out how to get to Norway by the 18th June. Also watched the Red's game last night to see them win in NZ - bring on the World Cup!! I am staying in Sandgate, which is a tiny village just along the coast from Folkestone, south of Dover. It's claim to fame is that the Sandgate Hotel appeared on the Channel 4 programme Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares on 27 February 2006. It's now closed. The beach is made of pebbles and the tides are massive. This morning had a good look around Folkestone but there was nothing to see. For some reason they have a sculpture of the Copenhagens' little mermaid - it's called Folkestone's mermaid....The best thing in Sandgate is the Micropub - four doors down the road. Beer is only £4.40 a pint. Anyhow, my time spent here was pretty productive. I leave on Monday back to Belgium, then onto Germany, through Czechoslovakia, into Poland to visit Auschwitz, then to Berlin, up to Denmark, Sweden and into Norway. From there I get the Oslo - Bergen train (rated as one of the world's most scenic railways) to meet the ship for the final stage of my adventure - the North Pole!!
