The quintessential France

Here I am in the middle of nowhere, in a beautiful village called La Tour-Blanche-Cercles, a commune in the department of Dordogne, southwestern France. Literally there is a bouchere, boulangerie, a bar, and a wonderful BnB where I am staying. The village is surrounded by a natural park and farmland. But first let me describe the trip here yesterday. My last morning in Bergerac was spent at one of the best markets I have seen in France. It literally took up a whole block around the cathedral and the quality of the produce (especially the tree crop products like cherry's, peaches, apricots) was perfect. So I loaded up on summer fruits and headed for a town called la Roque-Gageac (supposedly the most beautiful town in France - aren't they all). The village located on the river Dordogne was pretty good, but by this stage it was pouring rain, so I headed northwest towards my next stop passing through some some ancient cave locations and a woolley mammoth.

Today I decided to go a hike with a lovely couple from la Rochelle who were also staying at the BnB. 20km later and some 28 thousand steps we completed the walk. Olivier is a policemen and his claim to fame is that he provided security for Donald Trump at the G7 meeting. He was also super fit having completed in 6 marathons. His wife Isabella was also super fit having recently completed the El Camino. So the pace was pretty hectic. But the walk was beautiful. Ancient roads and paths through silent dark forests, crops of wheat, barley, corn and faba beans, and open fields. Deer and fawn would scurry away through the scrub. The beer at the end of the walk was well deserved. This is the France I have always imagined.

Looks so interesting, those radishes even appeared to be a work of art the way they were displayed
