What a day - Left my AirBnB in Malsch early this morning for the drive to Munich, 5 hours via nearly all back roads. It was one of the best drives of the trip. In perfect spring weather, I drove through fields of wheat, barley and ripening canola, through really dense forests and through picture postcard villages. But I did have to drive through Stuttgart (home of Mercedes and Porsche) to visit the Pig Museum. This is the world's largest pig museum with over 55,000 exhibits. It was the former swine abattoir but is now a wedding venue, museum, beer garden and restaurant serving pork dishes. (Pig's revenge??). From there I drove to Ulm (German pronunciation: [ʊlm] (listen)- which has the world's tallest cathedral steeple (currently under scaffolds) - so managed to crack two "world's" things today to add to my list!! They have an amazing Rathaus (Town Hall) which has an early-Renaissance facade, murals and a 16th-century astronomical clock. It's also on the picturesque Danube river. Arrived in my hotel in South Munich this afternoon and found that it has a massive beer garden, so had to have Bavarian sausages with cabbage, mustard and token green for dinner. Not sure if I will get any sleep tonight as my room is right above the beer taps!! I think I can hear Mal McNiven laughing as well. Tomorrow I will be visiting the BMW museum and Dachau, which I visited during Octoberfest in 1984.
