Vikings didn't wear horned helmets

Last night we motored up the coast to our next port of call Leknes which is also part of the Lofoten Islands. In Winter it is dark from Dec 9th to Jan 4th. The town itself is a little inland and it's natural surroundings are among the most stunning in Norway, with mountains, peaks, cliffs, and white sandy beaches. However we were here to visit Lofotr - Viking museum. In 1983 the remains of what was believed to be a large Viking settlement were discovered on Borg in Lofoten when a farmer plowing his fields found fragments of glass and ceramics. The first excavation started in 1983 and lasted about six years. What they unearthed was nothing short of remarkable! The remains of the largest Viking longhouse ever discovered in Europe, a total of 83 meters long and 9,5 meters wide. When the excavation was concluded, it was decided to build a complete reconstruction of the longhouse. The museum attached to the longhouse contained lots of interesting artefacts from the excavation. In the afternoon (after another delicious lunch with 2 deserts)I attended a compulsory talk from Alice about Whales. Tonight I dined at Lumiere the flash degustation restaurant with Nick and Linda. About 10pm we entered Trollfjord, a really narrow gorge. So we went up to Level 10 to watch until midnight. Simply stunning.
